We're back, NYC! And now, we're About and Out. Here's the latest and greatest happenings in the city...
About and Out (formerly Out at the Beach) is now focused on New York City happenings—by popular demand! Just like before, it’s a free, curated weekly newsletter designed to keep you up to date on everything going on. Subscribe here to get About and Out delivered to your inbox every Tuesday.
US Open: Nothing screams back-to-school quite like a Honey Deuce. The women’s finals are on Saturday, September 7, at 2 p.m and mens on Sunday at 4 p.m. No ticket at Arthur Ashe? Catch the action (and the atmosphere) on the Hudson Yards Big Screen or at Brookfield Place’s lively outdoor viewing throughout the finals. I’m planning on wearing this dress with this sweater
Shakespeare in the Park returns! See Twelfth Night at the beautiful, newly revitalized Delacorte Theater in Central Park. This star-studded production marks the theater’s grand reopening and runs only through Sunday, September 14. (Check out the bottom of the link to see how you can score tickets)
The Armory Show (at the Javits Center), Friday, September 5; Saturday, September 6, and Sunday, September 7. It’s the premier international fair for modern and contemporary galleries. If you’re going to attend one art show all year, this one is not to be missed.
A smaller and lesser-known art fair, Art on Paper, is also happening at Pier 36, Thursday, September 4 through Sunday, September 7. This fair showcases over 100 galleries presenting modern and contemporary paper-based art.
How fun does this Starry Nights event look at the New York Botanical Garden? It’s only on this weekend and next. Also at NYBG: Children’s Gardening Program starts this weekend. Register here.
The Met Children’s classes start soon; sign-ups are available here. At The Met Cloisters, there’s Story Time on Tuesdays, September 2 and 9, and Family Tours on Saturday, September 6.
It’s Broadway Week, September 8-21, grab tickets for Lion King, Aladdin, Wicked, and Harry Potter for 2 for 1. Oh, Mary! (for adults) is still on my to-see list.
If you’re willing to travel to NJ, Bubble Planet looks like a great time at the American Dream Mall.
Have you heard of Meadow Lane? It’s a new gourmet grocer in Tribeca that looks fantastic
I’m thrilled to see that Eataly Caffè will be opening at 78th and Lex this winter—what a score for the UES!
I still haven’t had a chance to visit Printemps and Jessica McCormack, but I’m looking forward to checking them out in the coming weeks.
Jennifer Hunter, mom of two girls, and an endlessly creative interior decorator (her dreamy CT home is a must-see!), shares her go-to Manhattan favorites. From chic spots to family fun, Jennifer brings the same thoughtful curation to her city picks.
Crazy Pizza: “This is the perfect Sunday night plan, especially when you're totally spent from parenting all weekend. It's dinner and a show, all in one spot. Low effort for parents, high fun for everyone!”
The Rock and Roll Playhouse: “This might just be one of my favorite family activities! We’re constantly checking the events page to see what themed concert is coming up next. Each show features a cover band celebrating a favorite artist, and the energy is amazing. We even celebrated Hadley’s birthday here with a Taylor Swift impersonator!”
SeaGlass Carousel: “If you haven’t made it down to the SeaGlass Carousel in Battery Park, it’s an absolute must. It’s a one-of-a-kind and magical experience that truly feels like you’re underwater. My girls are mesmerized and ask to go over and over again.”
Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre: “A gem and nestled right in Central Park with such a charming, nostalgic atmosphere. Its blend of classic storytelling and hand-crafted puppetry makes it feel timeless, and it's one of those rare activities that truly engages both kids and adults.”
The Fashion Class: “My girls have been really into fashion, so I recently signed them up for a sewing class at The Fashion Class. I was so impressed with what they learned in just one afternoon! They came home proudly showing off a bag they made themselves. Such a fun and confidence-boosting experience!”
Glacé: “My girls beg for Glacé on the regular! It’s a viral hot chocolate and s’mores dessert sensation on the UES that recently expanded into a candy shop right next door. Don’t sleep on the soft serve either, as it’s just as crave-worthy!”
