Jennie Monness — devoted mom of two, co-founder of Union Square Play and Charmspring, podcaster, and trusted parenting voice — reveals her curated list and must-visit picks Out East.
Sagaponack General Store: “Our new favorite spot, I just love going here with the girls, whether it’s to pick up candy or ice cream once in a while or to get their famous breakfast sandwich every weekend. We love eating on the benches in the back when it’s not too hot out. They also have amazing prepared foods to pick up for home.”
Hampton Chutney Co.: “I have a sick obsession with their coconut chicken and rice dish. I could eat it every single day, and my daughter has inherited this as well. Their kids’ dosas are easy to grab and pick up before a drive back to the city or for a lunch in the park or at the beach.”
Sag Harbor Variety Store: “I discovered this store when on the hunt for fabric for one of my daughters to sew a dress for my other daughter. Not only did they have fabric, but they had a kids’ sewing machine and a million other things that you can’t find easily in the Hamptons that I can’t think of right now because you probably don’t realize you need these things until you go in. It feels like a Hampton boutique version of Target.”
Kites of the Harbor: “Our favorite toy store out here because it's so small - big toy stores are overwhelming, not just for us as parents to have to say no to so many things, but for kids to choose from so many things! We go to this store to pick up birthday gifts for others, but also to grab a raft for the pool or a board game on a rainy day.”
Scott Cameron Beach: “We love this beach because there is a huge wading area where the girls and I can walk with the water up to our knees and catch crabs in nets (only to let them go) - it’s called “The Cut” and is just full of adventure feels every time.”
Thank you for sharing your recommendations, Jennie!
This Stomp Rocket (far more fun than it looks) and this Toss and Catch game have been our favorite backyard games of the summer.
Need a book recommendation? My favorite reads of the summer so far are: Gwyneth and The Power Pause. Next on my list is A Marriage at Sea. For fiction, I’ve heard this one and this one are excellent.
