Weekly Highlights Out East: July 14-July 20
The World Cup final, an (excellent!) annual family fair, polo matches, summer galas and my top shorts and summer shopping picks...
World Cup Final: Sunday, July 19, kickoff at 3 p.m. The tournament's final match at MetLife Stadium caps off five weeks of soccer, and out here, it's basically an excuse to turn any porch or pool deck into a viewing party. If you're not hosting, most of the sports bars out east will have it on, so check ahead for reservations, this one will pack out fast.
Polo Hamptons: Saturday, July 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. in Bridgehampton. This is one of the quintessential Hamptons summer afternoons: polo matches, tailgating, and a crowd that's dressed for it. Tickets have sold out in years past and are not sold at the door. (one additional date, next Saturday, July 25)
16th Annual CMEE Family Fair: Saturday, July 18, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This is the Hamptons' biggest family party (and my kids have loved it in years past), and it's for a great cause: CMEE's annual fundraiser, with arts and crafts, water play, live entertainment, food trucks, and candy for all ages. (I’ll be there passing out stickers and bubbles, come say hi!)
Parrish Art Museum Midsummer Gala: Saturday, July 18, starting at 5:30 p.m with cocktails, dinner 7 to 9 p.m., and an afterparty at 9 p.m. One of the most anticipated benefits of the summer.
Young Creatives: Sketch Safari: Thursday, July 16, 3:45 to 5 p.m. at LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton. Ages 6 and up, $65 to $75. Artist Karyn Mannix leads kids through the gardens to sketch nature's patterns, materials included. Part of a four-week Thursday series if your child wants to go all in.
There are so many other wonderful kids’ events, here are some worth noting:
Goat on a Boat Always Puppet Theater is always popping up somewhere
Check your local library for kid’s classes, links here: John Jermain library in Sag Harbor, Bridgehampton Library, Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton and East Hampton Library.
I’m not normally a shorts gal, but there are so many great ones out there for the summer:
My favorite pants are now shorts! I get sooooo many compliments on the polka dots every time I wear them. Donni is really crushing it with shorts, these are great and I particularly love the color of these (for preorder). Also, another favorite pair of pants in the shorts version.
And for the sporty (soccer!) gals, I love these two-toned ones, and is Umbro back?! In Umbro news, there is an excellent collab with Reformation (sold out anorak, but white one is excellent, too)
…and these white poplin ones that I posted about earlier this summer continue to hit for a classic
Related but for a different person: The best shorts for boys, which are the perfect length.
I can’t stop thinking about these flip flops, each color is truly better than the next. If you had to choose just one, which would it be?!
This necklace is excellent, recommended by Courtney Grow, a great follow if you don’t already.
Our pool lounge cushions have seen better days, and I've been eyeing these cheerful ones as a replacement. But then I found these towels to use as a cover in the meantime, and I think they'll hold me off until next season.
This cane mah jong set looks just as gorgeous sitting on a coffee table as it does in play.
Here are some of the newest openings out east, which I continue to update
